Arizona Bird Hunts

Click for Tucson, Arizona ForecastI will be guiding bird hunts in Arizona December through early February. The bag limits on Gambels and Scaled quail are 15 per day with 30 in possession. The morning dove limits are 10 per day with 20 in possession. A three-day hunting license is $51.50. You also need a $15 federal migratory bird stamp to hunt doves.

My quail and dove hunts are based in Wilcox, 50 miles east of Tucson. They are all wild birds on private and public lands. The terrain is Sonoran upland and desert grassland. Boots are your most important piece of equipment. They should be lightweight, unninsulated and a minimum of 8" high. Plan to walk 5 to 8 miles per day. All of your clothing should be lightweight and able to turn thorns. This includes brush pants, chaps, shirts and gloves.
You may need rain gear. You will need a means to carry the birds in the field and a sturdy ice chest to carry them home. When I guide more than one person blaze orange is required, eye and ear protection are recommended. I do not carry a gun or mix hunting parties.

The dogs are well trained English Setters that point and retrieve. I also use a closeworking springer spaniels to flush and retrieve.Your trained dog is always welcome.
